Real Winter Performance Data From Completed Installations

Not manufacturer projections. Not best-case brochure figures. Real efficiency readings and a real bill from our own completed installs, with the customers' personal details removed, through real British winters. So you can benchmark any installer's promises against what actually happens.

What To Expect In Your First Winter

A correctly sized and commissioned system holds every room at temperature through cold snaps, without backup heaters and without drama. Bills peak in December and January, exactly as gas bills do, but at a fraction of the figure, because every unit of electricity is delivering three or more units of heat.

How We Prove It, Not Just Claim It

Every heat pump we fit is monitored, so the efficiency it actually runs at is a number you can see, not a promise. Below are real readings from our own completed installs, with the customers' details removed. Where a home is on an off-peak tariff like Octopus Cosy, we help set that up at handover, because the right tariff makes a real difference to the running cost.

Real Efficiency, Straight From Our Customers' Systems

These are screenshots from the monitoring apps on our own completed installs, with the customers' personal details removed. The number that matters is the efficiency, or SCOP: how many units of heat you get out for each unit of electricity you put in. A gas boiler gives you less than one. Anything above about 3.0 beats gas at today's prices. Ours run comfortably beyond that.

4.8 units of heat for every unit of electricity, heating and hot water.

4.47 on another completed install.
Heat pump monitoring app showing a seasonal efficiency of 4.4
4.4 across a full year of use.
Heat pump monitoring app showing a full month of energy use in February
A full February of heating and hot water, in real numbers.
Heat pump monitoring app showing a seasonal efficiency of 3.9 on a larger home
3.9 on a larger family home using far more heat.

19.2°C indoors while it was −2°C outside, January 2026.

For context: the measured UK average for a heat pump is about 2.8, and a gas boiler sits below 1. Every screen above is a system designed and commissioned to run at a low flow temperature, which is exactly what pushes the efficiency up and the running cost down.

What Our Customers Say About Their Bills

Text message from a heat pump customer: their gas and electricity a year ago came to £460 for the month, now a fraction of that with the heat pump doing heating, hot water and car charging

"The family have said the house has never been warmer, and at times it feels like we have underfloor heating."

Cost Comparison: Heat Pump vs Gas Boiler

Electricity costs roughly three to four times more per kWh than gas, which is why the straight unit-rate comparison makes heat pumps look expensive. That calculation misses three things. A correctly installed system delivers 3–3.5 units of heat per unit of electricity, so the effective rate divides by the COP. Switching removes your gas standing charge entirely, £120–£180 per year before you use a single unit. And off-peak tariffs let the heat pump run at materially reduced rates for most of its duty cycle.

Typical Savings Range & Variables

Does every home see lower bills? No, and anyone who promises that is selling. It depends on your insulation, your current heat loss and, above all, whether the system is sized and commissioned correctly. That is exactly why we survey before we quote, and why we show you real efficiency readings and a real bill instead of projections. What your own house would save is what the survey works out, from your figures, not an average.
